Growing up, one of the things I love about the summer was the baseball All-Star game. It was a two-day event where the best of the best would come together to showcase their abilities and combine their talents in the spirit of friendly competition and growing interest in the game. These days, I look forward to another mid-summer classic, the Multi-Course & Resort Operators Retreat (MCOR) hosted by the National Golf Course Owners Association in the stunning coastal town of Monterey, California. Much like the baseball version, MCOR features an all-star cast of players, coming together to showcase their talents and connect with the past and future of the game. MCOR is a place where strangers become friends and competitors become colleagues in an atmosphere that is without equal in the business. Here are a few of the reasons that I look forward to MCOR:

Networking Opportunities

One of the most compelling reasons to attend the Multi-Course & Resort Operators Retreat is the unparalleled networking opportunities it provides. Attendees will have the chance to connect with peers, share experiences, and discuss best practices. The retreat attracts a diverse group of golf course owners from across the country, making it a unique platform for exchanging ideas and forging new partnerships. Whether you are looking to expand your network or deepen existing relationships, the retreat offers numerous occasions for meaningful interactions, from informal meet-and-greets to structured networking sessions.

Educational Sessions and Workshops

Education is a cornerstone of the NGCOA’s mission, and the 2024 retreat will feature a robust lineup of sessions and workshops designed to address the most pressing issues facing the golf industry today. Expect to gain insights from leading experts on topics such as sustainable course management, marketing strategies in the digital age, and optimizing operational efficiency. These sessions are crafted to provide practical takeaways that can be immediately implemented at your own courses. The interactive workshops will also offer hands-on learning experiences, allowing attendees to delve deeper into specific areas of interest.

Keynote Speakers

The retreat’s keynote speakers are always a highlight, and this year promises an exceptional lineup including former Governor of Ohio John Kasich. Attendees can look forward to inspiring talks from industry leaders and innovators who will share their visions for the future of golf. These speeches not only provide valuable knowledge but also offer inspiration and motivation to drive your business forward. The diverse perspectives of the speakers ensure that there is something to learn for everyone, whether you are a seasoned golf course owner or new to the industry.

Technology and Innovation Showcase

In an era where technology is rapidly transforming the golf industry, staying ahead of the curve is crucial. The retreat will feature a technology and innovation showcase, where attendees can explore the latest advancements in golf course management. From state-of-the-art turf maintenance equipment to cutting-edge software solutions for customer engagement, this showcase will provide a glimpse into the future of golf course operations. This is an excellent opportunity to discover new tools that can enhance your course’s efficiency and guest experience.

The Splendor of Monterey

Beyond the professional enrichment, the location of the retreat adds a layer of excitement. Monterey, California, is renowned for its breathtaking coastal scenery, historic charm, and world-class golf courses. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy some of the most picturesque golf settings in the world, including the iconic Pebble Beach. The natural beauty and serene environment of Monterey provide the perfect backdrop for both relaxation and inspiration.

Conclusion

MCOR24 in Monterey promises to be an event rich with opportunities for learning, networking, and personal growth. Once again, NGCOA has curated a program that addresses the critical needs of golf course owners while celebrating the vibrant community that makes this industry so special. I look forward to joining my fellow golf enthusiasts in Monterey and witnessing firsthand the innovations and ideas that will shape the future of golf.
