Charleston, S.C. (October 13, 2020) - The National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) is pleased to announce its involvement in the first African American Golf Expo & Forum (AAGE&F). The event, scheduled for February 20-23, 2021 at the Marietta Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta, seeks to “promote the game, the business, the industry, the careers and the opportunities in golf to African Americans” and other communities currently underrepresented in the sport. It will feature sessions on topics ranging from golf programs at historically black colleges and universities to supplier diversity opportunities as well as 20,000 square feet of exhibition space reserved for minority-owned/focused businesses and organizations.

NGCOA is sponsoring and will present educational programming related to golf course ownership. “We’re excited that NGCOA came on as our first sponsor, and we look forward to NGCOA playing a dual role in our first Expo & Forum,” said Jim Beatty, founder of AAGE&F, president of Jim Beatty Golf Ventures, executive editor of the African American Golfer’s Digest and chairman of the WE ARE GOLF Diversity Task Force Recreational and Competitive Play Committee. “Our attendees will greatly benefit from NGCOA’s business expertise and guidance. We want to increase the ownership of golf courses and other venues among African Americans and NGCOA will help achieve that goal.”

This new partnership not only puts NGCOA in a better position to help the business of golf — especially as it relates to supporting currently underrepresented populations in golf with revenue-positive course ownership — it is also a tangible demonstration of the organization’s commitment to a more diverse and inclusive sport. "In order to see real progress in the business of golf,” said NGCOA CEO Jay Karen, “industry stakeholders need to walk down many paths together. This sponsorship and education-sharing allows us to take a significant step, but rest assured it is only one of many ahead. I look forward to collaborating with Jim and with my fellow industry allied organizations on helping improve the business we love.”

To underscore its aim to drive diversity, equity and inclusion activities that serve the business of golf, NGCOA has also developed a Diversity & Inclusion Center on its website. Golf course owners and operators will find information on minority-owned and/or -focused businesses, organizations, publications and programs as well as resources for building and maintaining a healthy culture of inclusivity in their own organizations.

NGCOA’s Newest Conference and First-Ever Hybrid Event

Charleston, S.C. (July 9, 2020) - Increasing revenue has always been incredibly critical to the health of businesses, even before the challenges that the coronavirus recently created throughout the U.S. The National Golf Course Owners Association’s newest event, Golf Business RevCon 2020, was originally designed to give owners and operators tools and techniques to build new revenue streams, identify and retrieve lost revenue, and yield better revenue out of traditional sources. Today, more than ever, boosting revenue streams could be the difference between success and failure.

“For over a decade, course operators have reduced expenses in the name of achieving a positive bottom line,” said Jay Karen, Chief Executive Officer of NGCOA. “With the surge in play and advancements in marketing and technology, now is the time to get bullish on revenue. It’s time for growth again, and RevCon20 is all about growth.”

Golf Business RevCon 2020 is golf’s only event that’s all about revenue. It will offer expert education, insights and tools from leading speakers in research and data, hospitality, technology, marketing, food and beverage, entertainment and gaming, and retail. Attendees will also hear directly from other successful golf course owners and operators how they applied these and similar practices and increased revenues at their businesses.

"Our team has been working diligently to curate and deliver content that attendees will be able to use to boost revenue immediately,” said Dave Barton, NGCOA’s Director of Education. “From the latest technologies, to decision-driving data, to tips for increasing F&B sales, RevCon20’s education will help golf course owner and operator attendees write a playbook to maximize revenues."

Golf course owners and operators can attend RevCon20 either 1) at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, or 2) remotely from a computer or mobile device. Those attending in Las Vegas will enjoy first-class food and top-shelf beverages at CDC-compliant properties with full safety precautions in effect, as well as golf and gaming. Remote attendees will participate in the same education sessions concurrently, and enjoy virtual activities. Attendance is complimentary for most registration types.

“While education and networking are what members appreciate most from NGCOA events, health and safety obviously take a front seat in today’s climate,” said Nancy Downie, NGCOA’s Director of Events. “NGCOA has reworked RevCon20 into a hybrid event, which offers options based on comfort level, and doesn’t diminish the experience or compromise personal safety.”

Golf course owners and operators who want to attend, and industry suppliers interested in sponsoring, can learn more at GolfBusinessRevCon.com.

Mobile platform thanks, encourages and rewards golfers for playing; reduces dependence on discounting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 13, 2020) – The National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) has added Golf Surprize as its latest NGCOA Smart Buy Marketplace Partner. Golf Surprize encourages golfers to book directly with the club by creating “Reward Days” or “Reward Times” with chances to win club credit and other prizes. Golf Surprize’s rewards program is also a great way for courses to thank golfers who are returning to play golf after the coronavirus-related temporary closures and/or mandated stay at home orders. For 60 days, Golf Surprize has completely waived the one time $550 set up and license fee for NGCOA members and reduced the fee to $200 for non-NGCOA members. Details on the NGCOA offer can be found at surprize.golf.

“NGCOA has been vocal about business practices of third parties that are creating unnecessary discounting of golf,” said NGCOA CEO, Jay Karen. “We encourage our members to work with companies that facilitate direct engagement with customers and add value to the tee time in lieu of cutting prices, and that’s what Golf Surprize does. Their platform incentivizes and rewards the golfer, and we need more of that.”

Once players provide their mobile number at check-in, they simply enter their golf scores or on-course experiences into the Golf Surprize platform after the round and earn a chance to win instant credit that can be redeemed in the Pro Shop or clubhouse, or be eligible for rewards and prizes from Golf Surprize partners. Better yet, winners typically spend 2.6 times their reward at the course. Most important to owners, Golf Surprize helps golf businesses gain valuable feedback from customer's on-course experiences and ethically build customer databases with names, mobile numbers and emails every time they use it.

“Golf courses have seen the dangers and detriments of discounting, and Golf Surprize is the common-sense solution to discounts,” said Anthony Robinson, Founder and President of Golf Surprize. “We’re excited to work with golf clubs to help them instantly offer their customers more value from their regularly-priced green fee, drive more customers who like to spend at their courses, build better databases, provide a more exciting experience, and help create deeper, more dynamic relationships with their customers.”

About the NGCOA

Learn more at ngcoa.org or call 800-933-4262.

About Golf Surprize
Golf Surprize values the hard work golf owners and their teams dedicated to creating unique customer experiences, and firmly believes a full-price green fee should be more valuable to a golfer than a lower priced green fee. Golf Surprize rewards, challenges and grows golf participation with its customer-focused rewards platform. Golfers use their mobile number to win pro-shop and clubhouse credit based on their scores and experiences, or eligibility for other rewards or prizes. Golf Surprize is creating a wave of innovation for the industry and already has products patented in the USA and other countries. Learn more at surprize.golf.

Three-Phase National Framework Aligned with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines

(ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.)  As part of an industry-wide collaboration to lead the responsible return of golf in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the game’s allied organizations have established “Back2Golf,” a plan outlining operational guidelines for golf’s 16,000-plus facilities that adhere to nationally established protocols and best practices.

After review from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), golf leaders and medical experts, the game’s national organizations have adopted a three-phase approach for golf’s careful reopening, focused on prolonged social distancing and enhanced sanitization practices. Using measures set by the CDC and The White House “Guidelines for Opening Up America Again” plan, the recommendations will progress at various paces depending on geographic location.

“The Back2Golf Playbook and Guidelines that the PGA of America and golf's allied organizations have put together are both comprehensive in nature and, most importantly, lay out a responsible way to get back on the golf course,” said Dr. Bradley Connor, clinical professor of medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College and an attending physician at the New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell campus. “The guidelines emphasize social distancing and other preventative measures in alignment with the plan established by The White House and CDC. Golf is a terrific recreational outlet that offers a number of physical and mental health benefits.

“While we all must remain vigilant and continue to take precautions, this plan allows golf to be played in keeping with social distancing best practices,” Dr. Connor continued. “I applaud the golf industry for helping to be part of the solution to get us back outdoors in a healthy and responsible manner.”

This industry-wide initiative has been primarily focused on ensuring golf courses that have remained operational or will reopen soon, do so responsibly to protect golfers, employees and all members of the community. Each organization has distributed “Back2Golf Guidelines” and the corresponding “Operations Playbook” to its respective audiences to implement and administer. Updates will be made as interim guidance on COVID-19 is issued by the CDC.

“The importance of social distancing and responsible behavior during this pandemic has become a part of everyone’s daily life,” says Seth Waugh, CEO of PGA of America, whose team took a leadership role in developing Back2Golf. “Reopening golf responsibly under strict social distancing practices is something we can all unify behind. While we recognize there is no perfect solution and various areas of the country will progress in these phases at a different pace, it is imperative that we reopen golf in a way that prioritizes the health and well being of the entire golf community.”

Back2Golf is driven by key stakeholders of WE ARE GOLF, a division of the World Golf Foundation created in 2010 to spearhead initiatives on behalf of the game. Organizations include PGA of America, USGA, PGA TOUR, LPGA, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), and Club Management Association of America (CMAA), among others.

“Golf inherently provides many health and fitness benefits, including the opportunity to spend time outdoors with family and friends, which is needed now more than ever,” says Greg McLaughlin, CEO of World Golf Foundation. “It is a sport that naturally lends itself to social distancing and the ‘Back2Golf’ guidelines. We greatly appreciate the collaboration between all the allied golf organizations. It represents another example of our industry coming together for the greater good as our game has done so many times before.”
