The Power of Cross-Promoting

Virtually every industry boasts examples of business owners who have worked together to cross-promote their goods or services to the benefit of both companies. However, the management of Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden, Colorado, has forged a partnership with Uber that puts a new spin on things. Literally.

Golfers who choose to use the local Uber driving service can receive a $20 discount off a ride for playing a round at Fossil Trace. In return, Uber users can get a discounted rate at Fossil Trace. To claim their discounted ride, Fossil Trace customers must first sign up for an Uber account by downloading the app to their iPhone or Android. Then, they play their round at Fossil Trace and enter code FOSSILTRACE under “Promotions.”

To date, general manager Jim Hajek has relied on word of mouth, emails, website posts and social media to promote the program. He doesn’t have exact usage numbers for the promotion given its newness, but he says it’s used daily by at least one golfer and sometimes several.

“It’s working well,” Hajek notes. “A lot of people are starting to hear more and more about Uber, and this gives them another opportunity to use it. It’s really a great and convenient service. That’s why we partnered with them.”
