Good employees—especially among the younger generations—are hard to find. Steve Graybill, co-owner of Foxchase Golf Club in Stevens, Pennsylvania, has developed a pipeline to identify good seasonal staff through one of his current team members. The 15-year employee is a former high school shop teacher who still has lots of contacts in the school system, thus the ability to make reliable recommendations.
“I’d suggest to any course owner that they find someone who is networked like that,” says Graybill, who also finds that young people who enjoy a good day’s work will tend to know like-minded others coming up the ranks. “When a new hire gets here, they’re fully aware that the whole system depends on them pulling their weight.”
