Looking for a cool way to generate online buzz and get players out on the course? Consider hosting a “hidden cash” promotion like the one TPC Harding Park in San Francisco ran this past winter.

“Hidden Harding Cash” was a two-week promotion in which a staff member hid a $50 gift card somewhere on the golf course. The challenge was for guests to find it and redeem it for either pro shop merchandise or use it in the restaurant. If the card wasn’t located, the value increased by $25 each day.

Clues, consisting of course knowledge, local history and iconic figures, were detailed and made available on the Harding Park Facebook page. Over the course of the promotion, page views grew by 50 percent, rounds played by 20 percent and merchandise sales by 45 percent.
