Substantial Property Tax Savings Realized in Indiana
The Indiana Golf Course Owners Association is pleased to report golf course owners throughout Indiana are realizing substantial property tax savings as a result of success with golf course tax assessment changes. The chapter has been active in supporting property tax assessment of golf courses, based on the income method. Nick Rhodes, Board member of Blackford County Country Club reported his challenge to the county resulted in receiving a check for $13,000 in adjustments to two previous years' tax overages and a reduction in 2008 property taxes of over $10,000.
After an appeal filed in 2007 by Sam Taylor of Stony Creek Golf Club, his meeting with the county assessor reduced his course property tax by 35 - 40% or just over $40,000 for 2006 and 2007 tax years. INGCOA President Errol Klem has worked with board members in communicating with local and state legislators to bring about property tax legislation in both the assessment method and golf course classifications. The chapter continue sto stay tuned to this property tax legislation, which is currently in Committee.
